Brian Riedlinger serves as Chief Executive Officer of the School Leadership Center of Greater New Orleans and strives for the improvement of school leadership and therefore, student achievement, through professional development of school leaders. He has also served as CEO of the Algiers Charter School Association (ACSA) since November of 2005. As CEO of ACSA, he opened six schools on the West bank of New Orleans educating about 3,800 students in 2005-2006, the first group of schools to open after Katrina. ACSA has opened three more schools for a total of nine, currently educating more than 5,000 students. Previously, he was a principal in the New Orleans public school system for 20 years and was selected State Principal of the Year in 1999. Dr. Riedlinger received his bachelors and masters degrees from Louisiana State University and his doctorate from the University of New Orleans.

John Brown
Fellows Director

John A. Brown is the Fellows Director for the School Leadership Center. He is one of the 13 SLC Founding fellows. A retired educator of 30 years, Mr. Brown spent 20 years as a principal in Orleans Parish. He served as a consultant for Smaller Learning Communities and the Corner programs in Orleans Parish Schools before Katrina. Mr. Brown received his masters from University of New Orleans and did advanced studies at Louisiana State University.

Dr. Betty Porter
Research Director

Betty G. Porter is the Research Director at the School Leadership Center. In this position, she organizes the research department, increasing the number of research briefs compiled annually, now numbering over 300, as well as conducting workshops to elucidate and contextualize the research. She worked as a Louisiana math teacher for 20 years, acting as the Mathematics Department Head for four. Her accomplishments as a teacher and researcher have been lauded with numerous professional awards and honors. Dr. Porter earned a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from the University of New Orleans.

Janice Bernard
Coaches Grant Director

Janice H. Bernard is the Coaches Grant Director at the School Leadership Center. She has served as Director, Education Program Manager, and Education Program Coordinator for the Louisiana Department of Education. Prior to that, she spent 28 years in the Livingston Parish School System in various positions, including Principal, Assistant Principal, Supervisor of Transportation and teacher. Ms. Bernard received a Masters in Secondary Education from Southeastern Louisiana University.

Dr. Rose Drill-Peterson
Director, East Bank Charter School Collaborative

Rose Drill-Peterson is the Director of the Louisiana Charter School Alliance, a cooperative of nine charter schools in Orleans Parish that work in collaboration with the School Leadership Center. Her primary responsibilities are to connect the needs of the charter schools with available resources, keep members informed of and active on pertinent issues, and develop long-term plans for the cooperative. In her 37 years with the Orleans Parish School system, she has served as Area Superintendent, Director of Research and Development, Director of Information and Community Services, Governmental Liaison, and teacher. Dr. Peterson received a PhD in Educational Leadership from University of New Orleans.

Kathy Kilgore
SUNS Center Interim Director

Kathy Kilgore is the Director of the SUNS (Serving the Unique Needs of Students) Center. She has 37 years of experience in education both as a teacher and administrator. In January 2006 she retired from the New Orleans Public School District where she served as the Associate Director for Exceptional Children’s Services. Since her retirement, she has continued to be active in the field of special education and now serves as a special education monitor for the State Department of Education. As the Director of the SUNS Center she consults with various school districts and individual schools on the topic of inclusive education practices. The SUNS Center, under the guidance of the School Leadership Center, provides supports and services to charter schools in the greater New Orleans area as they design and implement programs for students with disabilities.

Robert J. Gremillion Jr.
Chief Financial Officer

Robert Gremillion is the Chief Financial Officer, Chief Administrative Officer and Director of Human Resources for the School Leadership Center. He is also the Chief Financial Officer for the East Bank Collaborative of Charter Schools. As a Certified Public Accountant, he provides on-site accounting systems training for charter schools. Mr. Gremillion previously worked for the UNO Foundation as Comptroller. He is a graduate of Louisiana State University with a degree in Accounting.

Mary Gilliam
Fundraising Consultant

Mary Gilliam is the Fundraising Consultant and grant writer for the School Leadership Center. She has worked with SLC since 2004 and is a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE), a member of the New Orleans Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and a founding member of the Greater Northshore chapter of AFP. Ms. Gilliam holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Tulane University through the Freeman School.


Gina Maldonado Dupart
Project Manager

Gina Maldonado Dupart is the Project Manager for the School Leadership Center. She works with all of the programs under the SLC umbrella including AmeriCorps. She previously worked 12 years in Orleans Parish School District Federal Programs, as a Legislative Aide in New Orleans City Council District B, and nine years at Ochsner Foundation Hospital Business Office. She is a graduate of Delgado Community College with a degree in Business Administration, and the University of Phoenix with a degree in Management.

Beverly Leonard
Office Manager, Events Coordinator

Beverly House-Leonard is the Office Manager and Events Coordinator for the School Leadership Center. She has been with SLC for over six years. Ms. Leonard previously worked 15 years as a legal secretary for Clyde A. Ramirez, APLC, and is an American Academy of Professional Coders certified coder and biller. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Xavier University.
