Upon accepting a fellowship with the School Leadership Center, the Fellow commits to attending two Summer Institutes. These are held two summers in June offering a six-day residential seminar which includes approximately 50 Fellows. The Institute provides in-depth training in school leadership and school improvement. The focus is on enriching leaders’ ideas about quality teaching and how leadership can promote it.
Fellows are polled after summer institutes on their schools’ needs so that SLC-LI sessions can be designed and conducted to have maximum impact on school goals. Two days are spent learning leadership techniques that can be transferred to use in faculty meetings and professional development for staff. One day is spent on social issues and networking with other schools across districts. The remainder of the time is spent learning how to read and examine data to drive the point of emphasis in school improvement plans.
